How to recruit parents
Parents of deaf children are difficult to reach as a target group, to let them know there are sign language courses and that they have full rights to access. How to recruit parents of deaf children in mainstream education and how to explain the need/importance of SL courses for parents is not easy so you need to get their attention.
Parents must focus on the learning opportunities for their deaf child, it doesn’t matter which language. It can be written or spoken of reading or signing. All are language. This is what you as a teacher first need to explain to parents. The child must learn, how the child must learn at school, that’s important. That is the focus.
